Step 6: Check the current Downloads location. Click on Change select another folder as the default location from File Manager. Select a relevant folder and click on Select Folder on the dialog box. The steps to change Chrome download location is identical as mentioned above. Instead of selecting a folder from File Manager, the only difference is that you need to select a new folder from the Finder menu.

You can either create a new folder in Finder or select an existing one. If you have OneDrive or Google Drive integrated with Finder, you can select a folder from these cloud storage services and keep downloaded files in sync among all platforms. We save these files directly to OneDrive so that they are readily available on other devices. Understandably, Google Chrome saves downloaded files to the phone storage. If your Android phone supports an SD card slot, you can change location from device storage to an external SD card.

From the same menu, you should enable 'Ask where to save files' toggle. After that, when you try to save media from Google Chrome, it will ask you to choose Downloads folder or SD card.

However, some users may want to specify a different folder for downloading files and you have some options to achieve that task. If you want complete control over where each file goes, you can set your device to prompt you every time you download a file. To do this, you will need to go to the settings page. This used to live in the Chrome OS settings menu but recent changes have separated out some settings into the browser.

Click that and you will be greeted with the downloads menu. At this point, your only options will still be Downloads or Google Drive but in the popup window that opens when you save a file, you will have the option to create a new folder.

You can use this feature to organize files into folders on a per-item basis. If you just want to use a different folder for all of your downloads, you can do that as well with the following steps. First, open the Files app that is located on the shelf of your Chromebook.

The shelf is the bar at the bottom of the screen that has icons pinned to it and the Files app is, you guessed it, the one that looks like a blue folder. Open that and then, right-click anywhere under the Downloads folder. You will be given the option to create a new folder and name it whatever you like. If you prefer, you can open the Downloads folder and create a new folder nested inside that folder.

Downloads folder or on Google Drive? Often, I will search in the Files App, but there is no path.

I have no idea where the file is. For files in Google Drive, I have to manage there to see a path, but the Path attribute is never even listed. This operating system really needs to grow up.

Moving a file seems to link additional files, Copying files………. Its horrible. Jose, I had the same issue too. It was driving me bonkers since I am a student and write many essays. This is how you fix it. Once you locate it, click to disable. That should do it! Which setting would I be looking for to disable on the link you provided? So I am struggling with the same problem, my files is locked in reader only mode, except for google drive and downloads. I cannot find the flags arc-file-experiment to disable, just an arc-file-picker-experiment. I am trying to copy files from an inserted SD card to a folder on my Google drive. There is not enough space.

I think I need a little lesson on how this works. Is my Google drive files taking up space on my device? Or are these temp files that is causing this? Should I instead be dragging from the SD card and dropping to my drive in a browser? Is this the right one?
